Explainer Video
This video is about five things military families can feel more at home in El Paso, Texas. It was a lot of fun to do preliminary research, conduct a formal interview and informal questions with others around town, and travel around obtaining footage of places in the city that even I have never been to in three years. While this video is intended to help military families, most of the information in the video can be applied to anyone moving to El Paso.
The overall message of the video is “EXPLORE.” I went around the city of El Paso, looking for local spots that were either mentioned in the interview or by my fellow students on campus. Most of the footage was obtained in one day, save for the reporter stand-ups. I filmed those on different days due to scheduling, meaning I had the opportunity to practice continuity with my wardrobe.
The editing for this video took around five hours. The time was divided into labeling each shot and other organizations, re-writing the initial script, creating the timeline in Adobe Premier, and then editing the audio, so it was more balanced. My microphone was blown out by my interviewee, but luckily I had my backup camera close by and at such an angle that it is difficult to tell that the footage is my backup.
Video Production Example
This video is an example of my video and audio capabilities. My university, UTEP was performing the play “Borderline” and was also about to perform the show “Zoot Suit” so my story is about how the university is supporting local playwrights and tell more stories that highlight different viewpoints. Originally captured and used on Oct 30, 2022. This video was also published in “Borderzine” on December 14, 2022 at this location: https://borderzine.com/2022/12/utep-theater-connects-with-borderland-culture-and-landscape/
